The Importance of Flowers in Life's Significant Events

The Importance of Flowers in Life's Significant Events

Over the past few months I have learnt first-hand how flowers have so much importance for many of life's significant events, Births, Weddings, Anniversaries, Deaths and Funeral/Memorials. Throughout the pandemic I noticed so many people were using flowers, gift bouquets to send well wishes, kind messages and thinking of you gifts to cheer people up that they could not be with physically.

The Love and kindness I witnessed from customers sending flowers to their loved ones was such a lovely thing to see and be part of. I have been honoured to be part of such kindness.

Something about fresh blooms in your home absolutely lifts the spirits. We were lucky to be able to offer contactless delivery ( door step drops) of bouquets throughout lock down and it was amazing to see the smiles on peoples faces from surprise and joy of a beautiful bouquet.

With so much loss throughout 2020 and 2021 many of our bouquets were sent out as sympathy gifts to remind the family that they are being thought of. When its hard to express in words the emotions we feel for people who have lost loved ones or the sympathy we wish to show the family of the deceased, flowers can express this for us with out the need for too many words when words are hard to find or sometimes not enough.

Flowers for Funerals

For so many of life’s significant events flowers can capture some sentimental emotions and memories. From including your late Grandmas favourite blooms in your Bridal bouquet to have her with you on your special day to using vegetables in your Grandads funeral tribute because he loved growing in his allotment.

Flowers can be a fitting tribute to lost loved ones and can also be the last gift to a recently deceased friend or family member.

Wedding Flowers

I regularly get asked to include sentimental flowers in wedding work to help remember family members who can not be part of the big day, we often get asked to attach small lockets of photos with loved ones to bridal bouquets or buttonholes so missing loved ones can still be part of your wedding day.

Flowers have individual meanings that can be symbolic for so many occasions eg;

Red Rose - True love

White Rose - Purity

Yellow Rose - Friendship ... and the list goes on!

Its worth googling the language of flowers. The Victorians used flowers to send specific symbolic messages, infact they made quite an art of it. Each birth month has an associated flower. My birth month is April and mine is Daisy this is also a lovely sentiment to send to congratulate new parents on the birth of their baby.

I always feel grateful that part of my job is to help my customers express love, well wishes and kindness to who ever they are sending flowers to, choosing flowers for sentiment or as a last gift to a loved one. I am always honoured when I am asked to be part of significant events for people from weddings to funerals and every event in between.

I feel very fortunate that I get to do a job that I love every single day that in turn helps others in some small way.

Thank you

Kirsty
